Two sets of intervarietal chromosome substitution lines in the recipient,susceptible cultivar ‘Chinese Spring’ were screened to identify the wheat chromosomes involved with antixenosis, antibiosis and tolerance resistance to greenbug and Russian wheat aphid. The amphiploid ‘Synthetic’ and the cultivar ‘Hope’ were the donor parents. Antixenosis, antibiosis and tolerance were evaluated with conventional tests in controlled environmental conditions using a clone of greenbug biotype C and a clone of RWA collected on wheat. Antixenosis against greenbug was accounted for by several chromosomes in both sets of substitution lines with chromosome 2B contributing the highest level of this type of resistance. The highest levels of antixenosis against RWA were associated with the group of chromosomes 7 of the substitutions CS/Syn set and the chromosome substitutions 2B, 6A and 7D of the CS/Hope set. Antibiosis against both aphids species was accounted for by several different chromosomes. The highest levels of antibiosis for most of RWA resistance traits were recorded from the 1B substitution line of the CS/Hope set. More than one gene appears to determine antibiosis. Tolerance to both greenbug and the RWA was significantly associated with chromosomes 1A,1D, and 6D in the CS/Syn set of substitutions. These lines showed enhanced plant growth under aphid infestation. The highest levels of antixenosis, antibiosis and tolerance against the two aphid species occurred mostly in different substitution lines. Consequently, the different types of resistance for both pests seem to be partially independent. Since different genes seem to be involved in at least several traits of the resistance categories against the two aphid species, such genes could be combined in new cultivars of wheat to broaden their genetic base of resistance against the greenbug and the RWA. Determination of tea components with antioxidant activity   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Levels of essential elements with antioxidant activity, as well as catechins, gallic acid, and caffeine levels, in a total of 45 samples of different teas commercialized in Spain have been evaluated. Chromium, manganese, selenium, and zinc were determined in the samples mineralized with HNO(3) and V(2)O(5), using ETAAS as the analytical technique. The reliability of the procedure was checked by analysis of a certified reference material. Large variations in the trace element composition of teas were observed. The levels ranged from 50.6 to 371.4 ng/g for Cr, from 76.1 to 987.6 microg/g for Mn, from 48.5 to 114.6 ng/g for Se, and from 56.3 to 78.6 ng/g for Zn. The four major catechins [(-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC), (-)-epicatechin gallate (ECG), and (-)-epicatechin (EC)], gallic acid (GA), and caffeine were simultaneously determined by a simple and fast HPLC method using a photodiode array detector. In all analyzed samples, EGCG ranged from 1.4 to 103.5 mg/g, EGC from 3.9 to 45.3 mg/g, ECG from 0.2 to 45.6 mg/g, and EC ranged from 0.6 to 21.2 mg/g. These results indicated that green tea has a higher content of catechins than both oolong and fermented teas (red and black teas); the fermentation process during tea manufacturing reduces the levels of catechins significantly. Gallic acid content ranged from 0.039 to 6.7 mg/g; the fermentation process also elevated remarkably gallic acid levels in black teas (mean level of 3.9 +/- 1.5 mg/g). The amount of caffeine in the analyzed samples ranged from 7.5 to 86.6 mg/g, and the lower values were detected in green and oolong teas. This study will be useful for the appraisal of trace elements and antioxidant components in various teas, and it will also be of interest for people who like drinking this beverage.  相似文献

The effect of tartaric acid and other organic acids on alcoholic fermentation was studied. Organic acids in media with high sugar concentrations and ammonium as the sole nitrogen source had an enormous impact on Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolism during alcoholic fermentation. The main effect on yeast metabolism was the quick acidification of the media in the absence of organic acids. All of the organic acids used in this study (tartaric, malic, citric, and succinic acids) showed a buffering capacity, but not all of the acids had the same one. However, the results suggested that buffering should not be considered the only effect of organic acids on yeast metabolism. Nitrogen source also had a great influence on media pH. Ammonium consumption by yeasts produced a greater acidification of the media than when amino acids were used.  相似文献

Root-zone temperatures (RZT) in relation to Cu and Zn uptake and tissue accumulation, and to total biomass, in potato plants (Solanum tuberosum L. var. Spunta) were studied. Using five different plastic mulches (no cover, transparent polyethylene, white polyethylene, coextruded white-black polyethylene, and black polyethylene) resulted in significantly different RZT (16, 20, 23, 27, and 30 degrees C, respectively). These RZT significantly influenced Cu and Zn content (concentrated) and the biomass in various potato organs. Root-zone temperature at 20 degrees C resulted in significantly high Cu content in leaflets, and soluble Cu content in leaflets and stems, whereas 23 and 27 degrees C resulted in significantly high Cu content in roots. However, RZT had no effect on Cu content in tubers or stems or on soluble Cu in roots or tubers. The RZT at 20 degrees C resulted in significantly high Zn and soluble Zn in stems, roots, and tubers; whereas, at 27 degrees C Zn and soluble Zn content were significantly highest in leaflets. The most biomass occurred in roots and tubers at 27 degrees C; whereas in leaves and stems, the RZT influence was highly variable. Total accumulation of both Cu forms was affected by RZT at 20 degrees C, with roots and tubers having significantly the least Cu and stems and leaflets having the most. Total accumulation of both Zn forms by RZT in potato organs was highly variable, but tubers consistently accumulated the most.  相似文献

(13)C NMR spectra of oil fractions obtained chromatographically from 66 vegetable oils were obtained and analyzed to evaluate the potential use of those fractions in predicting oil stabilities and to compare those results with oil stability prediction by using chemical determinations. The oils included the following: virgin olive oils from different cultivars and regions of Europe and north Africa; "lampante" olive, refined olive, refined olive pomace, low-erucic rapeseed, high-oleic sunflower, corn, grapeseed, soybean, and sunflower oils. Oils were analyzed for fatty acid and triacylglycerol composition, as well as for phenol and tocopherol contents. By using stepwise linear regression analysis (SLRA), the chemical determinations and the (13)C NMR data that better explained the oil stability determined by the Rancimat were selected. These selected variables were related to both the susceptibility of the oil to be oxidized and the content of minor components that most contributed to oil stability. Because (13)C NMR considered many more variables than those determined by chemical analysis, the predicted stabilities calculated by using NMR data were always better than those obtained by using chemical determinations. All these results suggest that (13)C NMR may be a powerful tool to predict oil stabilities when applied to chromatographically enriched oil fractions.  相似文献

Community‐associated methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a serious public health concern and in Australia, one that disproportionately affects Aboriginal people. Paralleling MRSA in human medicine, methicillin‐resistant S. pseudintermedius (MRSP) is an increasingly prevalent pathogen in veterinary medicine. We aimed to characterize the carriage of MRSA and MRSP in dogs and cats from predominantly Aboriginal communities in a very remote region of New South Wales (NSW), Australia. Pets (303 dogs and 80 cats) were recruited from six communities in western NSW. Three swabs were collected from each animal (anterior nares, oropharynx and perineum) and from skin lesions or wounds (if present) and cultured on selective media for methicillin‐resistant staphylococci. Human host‐adapted community‐associated MRSA representing four multilocus sequence types (ST1‐IV, ST5‐IV, ST72‐IV, ST93‐IV) were isolated from eight dogs (prevalence 2.6%, 95% confidence interval 1.3%–5.1%). Two ST5‐IV isolates from a single dog were phenotypically trimethoprim‐resistant, harbouring trimethoprim‐resistant gene dfrG within the SCCmec type IVo mobile genetic element. MRSA was not isolated from any cats and MRSP was not isolated from any dogs or cats. This study estimated a high prevalence of human host‐adapted community‐associated MRSA carriage in dogs despite an absence of MRSP. This suggests MRSA carried by dogs in remote NSW originate from human hosts. The cycle of transmission between people, dogs and common environmental sources warrants further investigation. To our knowledge, this is the first report of trimethoprim‐resistant ST5‐IV in eastern Australia and the first report of trimethoprim‐resistant ST5‐IV from a dog.  相似文献

All efforts to improve fruit quality are rewarded when consumers are satisfied after tasting the fruit. Apples are often stored under controlled atmosphere conditions to preserve them over time, but this frequently results in a loss of flavor. The aim of this work, which was based on two seasons, was to evaluate the influence of a period of short-term air storage (periods of 2 and 4 weeks) after removal from ultralow oxygen (ULO) storage (1 kPa of O(2)/1 kPa of CO(2)) with respect to increases in volatile compound emissions and the effect on standard and sensory quality in 'Golden Reinders' apples. The results showed that emissions of 26 volatile compounds increased as a result of ULO + 2 weeks or ULO + 4 weeks of storage. However, the results of tastings involving a panel of consumers and trained experts revealed that this increase was not matched by corresponding increases in either the degree of consumer preference or flavor attributes.  相似文献

Multiple regression analysis was used to develop mathematical models applicable to the growth and food intake of Octopus vulgaris. The variables considered were: body weight (Bw: 175–3,500 g), temperature (T: 13–28 °C), sex (S: male = 0, female = 1) and diet (D: bogue fish = 0, crabs = 1). Growth and food intake may be succesfully expressed by means of the following equations: Ln (AGR + 14) = –2.0135 + 0.0895 Ln Bw + 0.5087 T – 0.0142 T2 + 0.2997 D (R2 = 71.79; ANOVA p < 0.0001) and Ln (AFR) = – 5.6577 + 0.5137 Ln Bw + 0.5266 T – 0.0132 T2 + 1.1135 D (R2 = 78.71; ANOVA p < 0.0001), where AGR: absolute growth rate, AFR: absolute feeding rate, Bw: body weight, T: temperature and D: diet. In our experimental conditions, sex did not affect growth or food intake. The optimum temperature for growth (17.5 °C) and food intake (20 °C) was independent of body weight. Growth and food intake were higher with the crab diet. Nevertheless, food efficiency was better for animals fed on fish (bogue). Maximum food efficiency was reached at 16.5 °C for both diets. When the temperature was above 23 °C, weight losses and mortality were recorded; the temperature at which this occurred depending on body weight and diet, so that smaller and bogue-fed individuals were more sensitive to increasing temperatures. O. vulgaris growth may provide optimum economic performance from 16 to 21 °C. This range is too narrow, considering the wide natural range (12–29 °C) in some Mediterranean areas. Therefore, O. vulgaris growth will be limited by seasonality of temperature or must be carried out with other systems (e.g. recirculation in closed systems with temperature control) for it to be economically viable.  相似文献

Rearing blackspot seabream has been associated with low growth rates and excessive lipid accumulation, resulting in a reduction of the edible yield. The effect of extruded diets containing different carbohydrate sources (wheat vs. wheat bran) was evaluated on 100 g blackspot seabream growth performance, feed utilization and fat deposition, taking into consideration the optimal dietary protein and lipid level described for smaller‐sized fish. A fish meal‐based diet was also tested as a control to assure maximal growth rates were achieved. The experiment was held in sea cages at environmental conditions. Duplicate groups of fish were distributed among six cages with a stocking density of 1.3 kg/m3 and hand‐fed each diet for 7 months. At the end of the experiment, fish in all groups doubled their body weight attaining 190–230 g. Specific growth rate (0.3–04), feed conversion ratio (1.3–1.6) and protein gain (0.5–0.6 g/kg/day) were similar among treatments. The Hepatosomatic Index, the Viscerosomatic Index and final whole body composition did not vary significantly among dietary treatments; nevertheless, the inclusion of wheat bran induced a significant increase of liver lipid content and the highest mesenteric fat index. All diets were effective in reducing whole body and mesenteric fat compared with initial values.  相似文献

The aim of the present work was to test the capacity of O. vulgaris to use carbohydrates supplied in three diets: a diet without added carbohydrates (diet C0: 500 g kg?1 water, 200 g kg?1 gelatine, 100 g kg?1 egg yolk powder, 50 g kg?1 freeze‐dried Sardinella aurita and 150 g kg?1 freeze‐dried Todarodes sagittatus), and two obtained by substituting 50 g kg?1 of T. sagittatus by glucose (diet GLU50) or by starch (diet STA50). The most stable and best accepted diet was STA50 (SFR 1.26%BW day?1), although there were no significant differences in the growth rates obtained with the three diets: 10.1 g day?1, 9.4 g day?1 and 11.2 g day?1 for C0, GLU50 and STA50, respectively (> 0.05). The feed efficiency indices were better for GLU50, of particular note being the protein productive value of 72% and a feed conversion ratio lower than 1. Protein and lipid digestibility were similar in all three diets (96–98% for proteins and 85–94% for lipids), whereas carbohydrate digestibility was higher in GLU50 (98%) than in C0 (84%) and STA50 (0.33%). The content of carbohydrates increased in muscle and the digestive gland as a consequence of the increased carbohydrates intake.  相似文献
